Bio

After finishing her first degree in Architecture with honors from the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand in 1998, Pattaranan Takkanon started working as a lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture, Kasetsart University. She then asked for a study leave and was awarded a scholarship to complete Ph.D. in Architecture from the University of Queensland, Australia in 2006. She returned to Thailand to continue working for the Faculty of Architecture, Kasetsart University. She has roles in teaching, research, consulting, as well as management as she is the director of the Bachelor’s Degree program in Building Innovation and Technology. Her areas of expertise are Architectural Science, Design for Tropical Environment, Building Materials and Enclosures, Thermal Design and Simulation. She is a practicing architect who applies research into her design for best performance especially in the field of thermal control for hot-humid climates. With 20-year experience in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), she partnered with Artisan Architects Co., Ltd. in 2019 to provide green building consulting service, CFD simulation and analysis for a wide range of projects including Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), ventilation in buildings, and sustainable product development. On behalf of Kasetsart University, she has opportunities to provide public services to government offices and private sectors. Her recent research projects that attacked timely issues focus on ventilation and thermal design for post-COVID-19 spaces, development of Green Building Information Modeling Program (Green BIM) for Architectural and Engineering Work on Energy-Efficient Buildings, and Urban Heat Island (UHI). The latter led her to be designated as a JICA local consultant in 2018 to work with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) in developing Bangkok Master Plan on Climate Change 2013-2030. Her current research project is “Local Climate Zone and Green Area Classification for Bangkok Urban Planning on Climate Change”. Apart from the university position and own practice, she also voluntarily works for the Association of Siamese Architects (ASA) and Thai Green Building Institute (TGBI). She developed the first rating scheme for Smart Cities-Clean Energy for Thailand. She is currently the head of working team to develop TREES-Passive NC rating which is the Thai Rating Energy and Environmental Sustainability for New Construction and Major Renovation projects that focus on passive design approach.
